Dear Editor,
Through the local media, I learnt that the Councillors of the Linden Mayor and Town Council on Wednesday night voted in favour of a no confidence motion against Linden Town Clerk Jonella Bowen. According to the release, Bowen’s performance and management of the Council’s affairs have become of great concern to the Council.
Well my question is ‘What are the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown waiting for? Why are they not moving motions of ‘No Confidence’ against the Town Clerk, City Treasurer and Human Resources Manager from the Georgetown City Council? The Town Clerk of Georgetown went off on a jaunt to Panama and Mexico without the courtesy of informing the Councillors let alone seeking their permission.
Due to the reckless spending by the City Treasurer, employees of the Georgetown Municipality will have to spend their ‘Freedom Day’ holiday in the shackles of poverty as a consequence of once again not receiving their monthly wages and salaries in a timely manner.
The Human Resources Manager has facilitated the gross nepotism and cronyism at City Hall with the hiring of friends and relatives of senior officers along with the Mayor and some Councillors. The Town Clerk is refusing to allow the tabling of a legitimate motion by a Councillor or to allow for a forensic audit of the Council even though the Mayor says she welcomes one.
The City Treasurer allows for the illegal and iniquitous granting of waivers of interest on outstanding interest owed on property taxes owed by persons who do not qualify. The Human Resources Manager allows for supersession and featherbedding within the Council. And the list can go on and on and on.Aren’t these misdeeds and transgressions far greater than those committed by the Linden Town Clerk?
Amber Valentine
