President David Granger has admitted that lawlessness has been prevailing at interior locations for some time
now. However, the President is confident that the efforts by his government to address the issue will be successful.
The President said this during the weekly televised programme “The Public Interest.”
Granger said that a concept paper has already been developed and efforts will soon be made to put plans into motion to address the lawlessness.
The President, a former army Officer, said that strengthening security is one of his priorities.
He said that the police presence at many interior locations is already being strengthened and the government has plans to increase the number of rural constables to support the police.
“In addition, we are developing a corps of wardens who will be working in the mining areas. Indeed, there has been some lawlessness in mining areas leading to deaths, sometimes traffic accidents, murders and fatal accidents in the mines,” said President Granger.
He added, “There needs to be better policing of our forested areas.”
“We already have a concept paper on the development of a corps of wardens who would be working mainly in the extractive industries and the tourist industry in the hinterland…that will come on stream after they are trained and properly equipped, they will generally come under the Police Force, under the Police Act, but they will perform specialized functions in those areas,” President Granger said.

I believe,President Granger is moving in the right direction. Serious security measures are necessary in that location, and must be implemented NOW. For over 23 years while in office, the PPP never thought of such a plan, because they themselves seem to have been a lawless group.CORRUPT AS USUAL.
