Dear Editor,
The United States GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump and Guyana’s Opposition leader Bharrat Jagdeo, have one disgusting thing in common they both seem to incorporate hate and race baiting into their politics in order to gain support.
Bharrat Jagdeo is an embarrassment to ALL Guyanese; he blatantly and unapologetically uses race/ethnicity to divide Guyana as former president and as leader of the opposition. Statements he made at a Guyana family fun day event in Queens, New York over the weekend showed the Guyanese people the type of leader he really is; weak, desperate and hateful.
He said there must be a community spirit to take “our country back from these people.” This to me was the most disturbing part of his speech and it is evident that Mr. Jagdeo feels that he owns this country, and that one day he will once again be president but that will never happen; he can only spur hate and incite racial division as leader of the opposition because he will never be leader of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana again.
It would be wise for the PPP/C and its members to publicly condemn the statements made by Mr. Jagdeo and distance themselves from him altogether because he is in a sinking ship and dragging the once prestigious party along with him, so it’s up to those party members who have some sort of moral compass and love for our country to decide if they would put on a life jacket and swim in order to save the party or go ahead and sink with Mr. Jagdeo.
