Dear Editor;
As you know, the lack of proper accommodation for our senior citizens who must go to the various post offices every month-end to collect their Old Age pensions and NIS benefits etc has been featured in the media quite a lot recently, especially since a pensioner fainted in the line in which he was standing for many hours in the hot sun at the Blairmont Post Office last month.
As a ‘son-of-the soil’ from Blairmont, I naturally became very concerned and immediately initiated action towards erecting a proper shed with suitable accommodation attached to the Blairmont Post Office to better serve our citizens, especially the senior ones who have already given of their best for our country.
This facility is scheduled for completion this week-end and I have planned a small “OPENING CEREMONY” for Tuesday, 5th July 2016 at 9.00am just before the July payments begin on that day so that the pensioners can also participate in the ‘opening’. I should, therefore, be most grateful if you can please arrange for this event to be given the best possible coverage in your newspapers. I think you will agree that it has the potential of acting as a catalyst and springboard for similar ‘community enhancement’ projects throughout Guyana.
