The Owner of Payless Variety Store on Wellington Street, Georgetown, Joseph Ramkumar will
host a fund raising event tomorrow outside the store to help Clive Atwell, the National Featherweight and Lightweight Boxing Champion who also holds the WBC CABOFE Super Lightweight and Featherweight titles.
On October 24 at the Giftland Mall during the ninth round of his WBC FECARBOX Lightweight title fight against Dexter Gonzales, 27-year-old Atwell fell to the canvas and was later diagnosed with bleeding in his brain.
An emergency surgery was done by Dr Amernauth Dukhi to save Atwell’s life and a second ‘corrective surgery’ to insert a plate was recommended. The cost for travel to Trinidad, accommodation and the surgery is approximately $5Million.
Saturday’s event will start at 09:00hrs and go up to 17:00hrs and persons desirous of helping to save the young father’s life can drop off their contribution at Payless Varity Store where Atwell will be on hand to collect himself.
Fans can get photos with him while DVDs of his World Title fight in Mexico and other fights including his slit decision win over Jamaican Sakima Mullings in their WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) welterweight title fight.
A lot of well known personalities from the local sporting and entertainment world would be present and all those who contribute will receive a stamped receipt.
Since the news of his plight became public the Boxer has received just over $1million excluding what the Government of Guyana has promised and all contributions will verified by chartered Accounts firm Parmasar & company.
Persons wishing to make a contribution to the success of this surgery can do so by calling 642-9961, 672-9215 or have the funds placed into Atwell’s Republic Bank Account # 2429702.
