Govt. houselots not for the poor of Guyana

Dear Editor,

Like most reasonable young people I have decided to give the new ruling party my support and reasonable time to streamline efforts to resolve some of the main issues we have in our country.
One year after, I can see of the front page of every paper (obviously not the Guyana Times) about our findings in the forensic audits. I stand corrected, but is this a smudge thing to obliterate the opposition or are we truly working to move forward?
Let me be very frank, the opposition has a few brilliant minds and would have garnered much more support from the youth, had the young blood rose to the occasion rather than sit and become greedy. Irfaan Alli, in particular I’m greatly disappointed in, as I had looked forward to him along with Hon. Bharat Jagdeo pushing for our youth more than the other members.
At this point, I wonder who will ever fight for our youth. Mr. President, you may be a profound human being but I find some of your linesmen are clueless as to what they are about. I find some so arrogant that it is scary. Let us nip this in the bud before we become further lost.
I know of a good friend who had applied for a house lot in 2010 and to date has not been contacted. Upon visiting the CH&PA (Housing Ministry) last week, well for one she can attest to the change in the atmosphere and the professionalism she was greeted with compared to her past visits. However, to her dismay, she was told that although she had qualified for a “middle income” lot since in 2010, there aren’t any available neither are the “low income” lots. What they do have is “high income” for 2.5 million and up.
So much for the middle class and the poor people, what I’m hearing is, ‘if you don’t have money, you can’t get a home’. Well in this case let the friends and family of the previous administration continue to buy all the lands available and exploit our country’s resources for their benefit. I get a better picture as to why the previous administration ‘looked after their people’ so that regardless of who is in power they will always be taken care of. Who is going to look out for the ones that didn’t have those resources to their reach, who is going to look out for the poor and better question; who will look out for ALL GUYANESE. Let’s see where the next year takes us!
