The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) dominated another premier sprint event yesterday when Davin Fraser edged Rupert Perry to clinch the Men’s 200m title in the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) National Senior Championships, which continued from Saturday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

Perry, who won the 100m on day one, was beaten in an event he is more renowned in. Fraser ran 21.29 seconds to edge Perry (21.34s), while Police’s Arinze Chance was third in 21.84 seconds. Fraser also anchored the GDF Men’s 4x100m relay team to victory.
Guyana Police Force’s, Julio Sinclair won the Men’s Shot Put (14.30m) and Discus Throw (39.04m). GDF’s Natrena Hooper cleared 1.83m to win the Women’s High Jump ahead of Police’s Cindy Fraser (1.50m) and Clarissa McBean (1.45m).
Hooper has a 1.78m performance that she completed two weeks ago at the Hamptons International Games in Trinidad and Tobago. She is trying to reach the 1.93m mark needed to qualify for August 5 – 21 Olympic Games in Brazil.
She also won the Women’s 200m and Triple Jump events. In the 200m, Hooper turned the tables on 100m champ, Aniquah Powley. Hooper clocked 24.79 seconds ahead of De Challenger’s, Toyan Raymond (25.61s) while Powley was third in 25.99 seconds.
Hooper leaped to 12.54m in the triple jump ahead of sister, Natricia, who posted a best mark of 12.10m. Linden’s double CARIFTA Games silver medallist, Chantoba Bright was third with 11.79m.
Double CARIFTA Games bronze medalist Andrea Foster, followed up her 1500m win on Saturday, with the 800m win yesterday. She took the race in a time of 2:19.25s. Claudrice Mc Koy won the Women’s 3000m, with a time of 10:50.00s with GDF’s Ashanti Scott second in 10:51.44s. Winston Missengher won the Men’s 5000m in a time of 15:53.62s, while Quacy Morian took the Men’s 800m in 1:53.79s.
