Dear Editor;
Please permit me a place in your column to express my concerns in regards to the Thursday 2nd June 2016 edition of Miners’ World hosted by Mr. Tony Shields on Channel 11 NCN.
Mr. Editor, Mr. Shields claims that Charles Ceres does not know or does not have the facts about GGDMA having members sitting on the boards and making decisions for land distribution. He, Mr. Shields claims it is fiction and not facts.
Mr. Editor, it was the GGDMA that asked for a branch of the Gold Board office to be opened in Charity and the previous Government answered their call but subsequent to completion of the gold board, this branch like Bartica Branch was closed.
Charity branch was later sold to the Alphonso Company whose son is a member and vice president of the GGDMA and sits on the board of the Guyana Gold Board as the representative of the GGDMA.
Can Mr. Tony Shields say if this is fact or fiction and if this is not a clear case of CONFLICT OF INTEREST?
While on his program he boasted of his members of GGDMA producing 80% of the gold produced in Guyana and the caliber of member that are in this organization. I am happy to know that he has acknowledged that the GGDMA only deals with the large miners but try to get benefits under the name of small miners. Mr. Editor mining is our greatest contributor to the GDP of Guyana and I wish all SMALL MINERS a fruitful year for we are about to complete the first half of this year and can achieve greatly in the second half of 2016.
Concerned Small Miner
