Demerara defeated the Guyana Cricket Board select U17 team by 16 runs (Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method) when the Hand-in-Hand inter county U19 50-over tournament resumed yesterday at the National Stadium.

Demerara managed 140-9 after they were inserted in hazy conditions. Openers Ronaldo Renee and Raymond Perez added 20 before a lengthy rain interruption caused the game to be reduced to 35 overs.
Upon resumption left arm spinner Ashmead Nedd gave his team the breakthrough when had Renee caught for 12 with the score on 35. Kevin Umroa then bowled Vishwanauth Ramlakhan for one before Perez and Sherfene Rutherford steadied the innings fairly. Perez timed the ball well hitting three fours before he was stumped off Umroa for 29 while Rutherford who deposited Nedd over mid-wicket fell to the same bowler for 16. Following the dismissal of skipper Travis Persaud who was run out for nine, the U17s managed to restrict the scoring with some steady bowling. However Ronaldo Mohamed slammed two sixes in a rapid 23 and got support down the order from Ramnarine Chatura (13) and Samuel McKenzie (12). Kevlon Anderson had 2-29 and Nedd 2-30.
Bhaskar Yadram and Sachin Singh survived some nervous moments against off-spinner Richie Looknauth who was entrusted with the new ball as they featured in an opening stand of 33 before left arm spinner Keshram Seyhodan had Yadram caught and bowled for six. Singh who safely negotiated a testing spell from pacer Rutherford, hit two fours and one six but fell to Persaud for 27.
Joshua Persaud and Javed Karim kept their team in the hunt with sensible batting however when Persaud was taken off Travis Persaud for 18 and Karim went for 15, the U17s found it difficult to stay on par with the asking rate. Nevertheless Joshua Jones provided some entertainment with a cameo 28 (3×4) down the order while Nedd made 12 as the U17s were bowled out for 128 off the last ball of the innings. Persaud claimed 4-11 to claim man-of-the-match award while Looknauth had 3-13 and Mohamed 2-26.
