A Georgetown resident who travelled to No 57 village, Corentyne in 2010 and allegedly attempted to kill his onetime lover is on trial in the Berbice High Court before Justice Brassington Reynolds and a mixed jury on a charge of attempted murder with an alternative of wounding with intent.
It is alleged that on January 7, 2010, Waliaferro Joseph called “Wally” attempted to murder Uneatha Mc Clean, 22, at Number 57, Corentyne.
Prosecutor, attorney-at-law Stacey Goodings told the court that on the day in question Uneatha Mc Clean, a housewife, was at the bottom flat of her residence when she suddenly felt someone grab her neck and mouth.
She recognized the man and subsequently tried to free herself but during her struggles she was stabbed a number of times. She managed to escape and was met by police ranks, who rescued her. She was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital before being transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital for emergency surgery and subsequently to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical intervention.
Accused Waliaferro Joseph
The woman related meeting the accused in 2007 at Bourda, Georgetown. They lived in Sophia for a while before relocating to Corentyne. During the time they had many disagreements. They subsequently separated.
She related that on the day in question she went downstairs to the kitchen when she was attacked by the accused and severely injured.
Prosecutor Stacey Goodings called a number of witnesses including Assistant Superintendent of Police David Renee, Police Lance Corporal Pinkey Watts and Police Constable Fitzroy Nicholson. They all testified to the parts they played in the investigation.
Joseph who is conducting his own defence subsequently cross examined the various witnesses.
The matter is continuing.
