The Georgetown Turf Club (GTC) April 24 Race Meet received a significant boost yesterday when Ansa McAl under its Stag Beer brand pledged its support for the upcoming event which is scheduled to be held, at the
Mocha Race Track, East Bank Demerara.
Stag Beer Trade Representative Richard Singh handed over a cheque for an undisclosed sum to Organiser Michael Sims, at the Company’s Head Office in Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara.
Sims, who has been one of the top racing promoters for sometime, before migrating to Canada, is making a return to the sport and he thanked the Company for its assistance, which according to him is a timely one.
Singh in his response said the Company was pleased to be associated with the event and wished the Organiser every success, adding that their contribution is part of assisting in the further development of the sport.
Meanwhile, six races are carded for the day with the H & Lower over a distance of one mile classified as the feature event and among the horses registered is Glamour Queen.
The race carries prize monies worth close to $400,000 with the winner set to receive $200,000, runner-up $100,000, 3rd place $50,000 and 4th place $25,000 plus trophies.
The other races carded are the J & Lower over six furlongs; K & Lower over six furlongs; L & Lower over five furlongs; Unclassified and a cart horse race.
Among the sponsors on board is Banks DIH, Nand Persaud & Company, Kris Jagdeo Construction, Attorney-at-Law Poonai, Mohamed Salim Khan, Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, Denis DeRoop, Simply Royal Racing Stables, Justice Cecil Kennard and others.
