Dear Editor,
The measly sum of $100,000 offered to the dead prisoners is at best an indication of the value Grander and his advisors place on the life of the prisoners and at worst an insult to the families and all Guyanese.
Regardless of the crime these men were alleged to committed, they were innocent men awaiting judgement by a jury of their peers, more so, they were under the care and custody of the State, and the very State failed to care for them, resulting in their death.
What makes this unethical, condescending and downright unfair behavior more reprehensive is that these very people while in opposition, when the Linden COI awarded a low settlement for those killed and injured as a result of the Linden electricity protested, vehemently. They criticized the foreign COI members, and the PPP for going along with it, for placing such a low value on Guyanese life, now they turn around and do worse.
Editor and fellow Guyanese, Isn’t this the height of hypocrisy, what leader would place such low value on his followers? These is the man that portrays himself as a compassionate leader that pardons youths and mothers from their prison sentences, yet turns around and do this, makes you question his motives. Is it a mere Public Relations Campaign? He had the best example of what a compassionate and true leader should be, in Sup’t Pilgrim and he ignored it. At lease Jagdeo never pretended to be what he is not. Brian Thomas
