The quarterfinals draw for the Mobile Wizard 10/10 organized by the Guyana Softball League and sponsored by Mobile Wizard, Trophy Stall, Miss Love (West Coast) Trading, Rohan’s Furniture Establishment, Imtiaz and Imran Hack has been completed and all the quarterfinalists are rearing to go today at the Tuschen ground. The fixtures for the day are follows:
MASTERS’ EXHIBITION: Parika Defenders versus West Coast Blazers:
Both teams have been working hard on their line up in anticipation of this clash. Players like Ramnarine Rambarose and Devanand Kanan will be in the limelight as bowling all-rounders, but the two can change the course of the game. Blazers will depend heavily Mohamed Saffie and his brother Riaz Saffie along with Albert Padmore as they will carry the team.
QUARTER FINAL: Wolf’s Warriors versus Vipers XI:
Wolf’s Warriors have been training hard since their loss to Speedboat SC and has dominated all their matches up to this point. The side is a good all round side and their aggressive play will certainly keep their opponents on their toes. Viper XI will remember in the round robin segment where they had them on the ropes only to drop some 4 catches allowing the Warriors to escape. They have indicated they will match their opponents’ ball for ball in this encounter.
Crossbreed Warriors versus Omesh XI:
Both camps have been hard at work on their weaknesses and this match is up for grabs as the teams are evenly matched. The bowling on both sides seems to have improved a lot. Omesh XI will depend on Ricardo Adams and Vickram Kissoon to set the pace, but Crossbreed bowling is an experienced one and will hope to run through the first five batters. This match will be very close and can go either way.
Settle XI versus Speedboat XI:
Settle XI started well in this tournament dominating all the teams until they reached the Speedboat SC in the round robin stage and lost miserably. They have indicated that this is a different time and they have learned from there mistake and will make amends. They will depend heavily on all-rounders, the dangerous Diaram Persaud and skipper Nazim Azeem, to take them to victory. Speedboat SC have played unbeaten so far with the minimum of fuss and will look on every player to come to the party in order to be victorious. This match will be exciting.
Leonora Youths versus Power XI:
This match is a repeat of the last round but on that occasion Power XI were the victor with Leonora Youths taking them for granted. This time around Leonora Youths are more aware of that and have pledged to beat the Power XI by a bigger margin as the match has now become a grudge match between Leonora village and Anna Catherina who are located next to each other. This will be a cracker with emotions flowing from both teams.
EXHIBITION:
Leguan Superstars versus Omesh XI:
Leguan Superstars will offer a stern test for the boys from West Demerara. They have nothing to lose, but Omesh XI will have their status at stake. The strength in the teams is their batting and they will have to come good to be victorious. This match will be close as the pressure surrounding both teams has been visible.
FEMALES:
Wellwoman versus Lady Jags:
The teams are in training every day and know each other, but Wellwoman have the edge in terms of victories, but Lady Jags have strengthened their team absorbing some of Trophy Stall players and will go all out to defeat their more experienced opponents. Both teams will depend on their batters up front to give them a good start and bat the other out of the match. This will go all the way and no clear winner can be predicted.
MASTERS:
Savage Masters versus West Coast:
Savage Masters have a very strong line up led by Nadir Baskh and include some of the best players on the East Coast, but they will be hard pressed to defeat the West Coast team in their own backyard. This match will determine who has the best team in East Coast or West Coast.
Meanwhile, lots of entertainment is planned by the organizers as Chow POW will host the evening with Granny Ivelaw and Shorty etc in his company. There will be an hour of comedy for the patrons. The music will be handled by Slingerz and Sandella One man band. The organizers will give away cell phones and t-shirts as well as other items to the spectators who are chosen randomly from the crowd.
Additionally the one ball manto “Put your money weh yuh mouth deh” which goes for a top prize of $10,000 dollars plus credit will continue its qualifying stage.
