Jan 08, 2016 Letters
Dear Editor,
With much reluctance, I respond to one Ed Singh since I am unsure as to his identity. As someone who observed the last ten (10) years of PPP misrule, I have never seen one letter of protest from Ed Singh regarding the period of PPP misrule. But since this Ed Singh took the liberty to cast some wild and spurious aspersions against me, I had no choice but to correct the record.
Every single statement in the Voice of the Liberal Democrats Column of January 6th, 2016 can be verified and fact checked. How dare Ed Singh attempt to dislodge the truth? Did the media not visit Hope Estate? Did the farmers not protest this imposition of this illegal fee? (come out of your bubble Ed and watch this video of the farmers protesting. This illegal and steep increase in the land rentals has nothing to do with the PPP. I would be the first to say that the PPP under Ramotar and Jagdeo did many acts that oppressed the poor and the working class. I can vividly remember that case where they bequeathed the Sanata Textiles lands in deals that were enticed by an arrangement that retroactively legalizing an illegal tax concession. But that is irrelevant to this matter. Wake up Ed!
When the PPP was in power, they always regressed to those 28 years to excuse their public failures. Are we now starting a new series of – “they did that for 23 years” to excuse public misbehavior? That line of defense was disgraceful then and it is disgraceful now.
As someone who claimed that have “no jobs, no lands and who is surviving day to day” (Ed’s words not mine), I am shocked that he is “not against the yearly rent” increases (again his words not mine). This is where I realize he is just a front for the wicked forces hell bent on sucking the bones of the poor cash crop farmers to pay themselves a super-salary. This is nothing but nasty class oppression and must be confronted head on and smashed in its infancy so that the fat cats cannot milk the poor man.
Let me make it clear for Ed and all those forces who think they can ride roughshod over the working and peasant class, I hold no brief for the Management or the Board; my concern remains to advocate for the farmers. I would urge the farmers to injunctive relief from the courts against this illegal fee increase. Any smart young lawyer will jump on this case in a flash.
This illegality will never be legal until the Minister issues the official regulations certifying it. Do you think the Chairman of Guyoil can wake up tomorrow and say he will increase gas prices to G$2,000 a gallon? No sir – the Minister of Finance has to certify it in writing. So why does the Board at Hope Coconut Estate think they are different from Guyoil as a 100 percent State Owned Entity? I understand that there is a need to revise the rates, but I have to advise it is not the “what”, but the “how”. When dealing with official business, there is a process – this is not a bush “dakta” outfit where one man thinks he is god and lord and the new “massa” over the peasant class.
Sase Singh
