Andrew Davis Hescott, who was charged last month along with a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Lance Corporal for having illegal guns with matching ammunition, was yesterday further remanded to prison on an armed robbery charge.
Hescott, 24, of Lot 6 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, pleaded not guilty to the allegation which stated that on December 4, 2015, while armed with a gun, he robbed Alicia Hinds of one BLU cellular phone valued at $26,000 and Elisabeth Williams of one HTC cell phone and one handbag all valuing $62,000.
He was also accused of robbing Claude Blackmore at gunpoint of $120,000 cash on the same day.
Hescott, who was unrepresented by an attorney, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was ordered to return to court on January 20, by City Magistrate Annette Singh.
Police Corporal, Shawn Gonsalves, presented the prosecution’s case. He objected to the defendant being admitted to pre-trial liberty citing the seriousness of the offence. Gonsalves also pointed out that Hescott is a flight risk and might not return to court for trial.
The Prosecutor told the court that on the day in question at 14:45hrs, Hescott along with two others were armed with guns when they entered the Kissoon’s Furniture Outlet on Main Street and robbed Alicia Hinds, Elisabeth Williams and Claude Blackmoore.
The suspects escaped. The following day Police Ranks from Operation Dragnet found Hescott and three others with two illegal firearms along with matching rounds on Robb Street.
Hescott was subsequently placed on an Identification Parade at the Golden Grove Police Station and was positively identified by one of the victims.

It was reported that concerned citizens saw the men in the motorcar acting in a suspicious manner. The police were summoned and cornered the vehicle, driven by the soldier. At the time the officer was reported to be wearing a black hood.
