Crime scene investigators and undertakers working to
remove the nude corpse from the Kingston Seawall
Undertakers yesterday removed the nude and decomposing body of a man that had become stuck between several large rocks on the Kitty Seawall close to the 1823 Monument.
Though the identity of the person remained unknown, police investigators confirmed that it was a male of East Indian decent but noted, that because of the state of the body, positively ascertaining the man’s identity initially would prove difficult.
“It is bloated and decomposed,” one of the investigating ranks let up as did one man who was searching for his missing relative.
For close to an hour undertakers and forensic ranks had the challenge of maneuvering the body from between the big rocks.
Meanwhile curious onlookers gathered in their numbers even as investigators on the scene believed the man may have died a few days ago. From all accounts there were no visible marks of violence.
As news spread of the discovery, one family rushed to the scene to see if the body was that of their relative, a fisherman who allegedly fell off a fishing vessel out in the Atlantic Ocean several days ago. However, after being allowed to view the corpse before its removal, they too were unable to positively identify it as a man named “Fishy”.
The body was first noticed by an overseas-based Guyanese home for the festive season, while he was walking along the seawall about 8:00hrs.
He called 911 but was allegedly told by the Police officer that he was onto the Kitty Police station, and that he needed to call the Alberttown Police station to file a report.
He said he became furious and asked the police on the other side of the line, why she can’t call the Alberttown Police Station since he is unaware of the number for the station.
Eventually, another man who was walking along the seawall managed to get the attention of two traffic officers who in turn, summoned other police ranks to the scene.
While the body was discovered a stone’s throw away from the 1823 monument, the security guard on duty said he couldn’t be concerned with what was happening on the seawall, as he was not on duty when the body was discovered and neither is it any of his business.
The police is said to be investigating.
