Yesterday four pairs were required to bat for 10 overs each, chasing imaginary targets with openers Assad Fudadin and Kevin Boodie being set 40 in 10 overs.
Fudadin looked very purposeful and stroked a couple of fours and a six off Paul Wintz in the same over, while Boodie whipped Ronsford Beaten off his hips for six after turning him off his legs for four.
The pair reached 53 off 9.2 overs before the rain chased the players off the field with Fudadin on 23 from 26 balls with three fours and a six, while Boodie’s 25 lasted 29 balls and was decorated with a similar amount of boundaries.
The middle order was given a target of 45 from 10 overs with Chris Barnwell and Vishaul Singh at the crease. Barnwell was his usual aggressive self and effortlessly pushed pacer Keon Joseph into the Rohan Kanhai stand before lofting him over mid-off for a one bounce boundary.
Singh slapped Joseph, who was operating into very strong breeze from the bottom end, for four when he bowled too short and wide to the left-hander but left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul soon removed Singh for 13 when he pulled a short ball to short mid-wicket. Barnwell was then bowled by pacer Romario Sheppard for 18.
Royston Crandon and Foo were the next pair to bat and the inform Foo gave himself room and spanked Permaul to the point boundary as Crandon played the supporting role in the best put together partnership of the day.
Foo, who helped Guyana snatch victory in the nail-biting final against Barbados, hitting a 17-ball 42 under immense pressure in the inaugural CPL final to earn for them in a place in the 2010 Champions League tournament in South Africa, smashed Barnwell for three consecutive sixes; the second landing on Regent Street.
Crandon (21) was caught and bowled by 20-year-old left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie as this pair reached 90-1 in 10 overs.
Permaul and Anthony Bramble were the other two to bat yesterday before Sheppard sent Permaul’s off-stump cart-wheeling in spectacular fashion.
