Dear Editor,
The partnership between Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Brian Lara ,(WI vs. England, Antigua, 1994), which resulted in Lara, breaking Garfield Sobers’ record of 365runs not out; is SYMBOLIC of what we in Guyana and the Caribbean region can do as a people, when we work together. It was Chanderpaul ‘s debut series. He was nineteen years old in his second test match. He sensed Lara’s mood, and ‘farmed the bowling’, to give Lara the majority of the strike. Lara on the other hand, was confident that Chanderpaul would hold up his end of the bargain. History was created. The Passion with which Chanderpaul protects his wicket, is a quality every Guyanese should try to emulate, in advancing ‘Good Governance’, in this Nation. George Daniels
