An assessment team from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and including personnel from Eastern and Southern Caribbean, and Washington D.C, met with Attorney General,

The meeting was to assess the possibility of a democracy in governance program in Guyana.
The team which comprised Sue Nelson, Dr. Stacy Ann Wilson, Lawrence Lachmansingh, Chloe Noble and Aaron Aabbarno, discussed a broad array of issues with the Attorney General regarding the administration of justice in Guyana.
“The issues included Law Revision and a Law Reform Commission; the backlog of criminal cases and its effect on persons held on remand; the implementation of the Civil Proceedings Rules; Constitutional Reform; the need for more experienced draftspersons and attorneys in the Attorney General’s Chambers and the training of Judges, Magistrates and other Judicial Officers,” a statement from the Ministry of Legal Affairs said yesterday.
The USAID assessment team promised to look into the possibility of providing assistance to the Judicial Sector in Guyana.
