Slingerz ease into top spot with 3-0 whipping of Pele; Conquerors edged GDF
Bakewell Slingerz Football Club took over the pole position with a better goal average in the Stag Elite (SEL) organized by the Guyana Football Federation after they whipped Pele 3-0; the two clubs are tied on 24 points each.
Facing off at the GDF ground on Friday night last the West Side based Slingerz got their goals in the first half from Vurlon Mills (13th), Captain Tichard Joseph (29th) and Dwain Jacobs in the 32nd minute to take away full points as the race for the top spot intensifies.
In the other match, the Guyana Defence Force squandered the early lead to lose to Fruta Conquerors 2-1 in an exciting duel. Delwin Fraser handed the GDF the lead in the 33rd minute and held on to that advantage until the 67th minute when Conquerors clawed their way back.
Jermaine Junor banged in the equalizer with the winning goal coming off the boot of Eon Alleyne three minutes later.
Stag Elite League action will continue this evening with another double header at the GFC ground. Buxton will take on Monedderlust at 18:00hrs with Alpha United matching skills with Georgetown Football Club in the main attraction at 20:30hrs.
