Two men who reportedly confessed to killing goldminer, Sheldon Rodriguez were yesterday remanded to prison following their arraignment on a murder charge.
Levi Thomas, 25, a gold miner of Mikobi Village, Mahdia Region Eight and Gregory France, 28, of Onderneeming, Essequibo are accused of murdering Rodrigues on November 2, at Falls Top, Arimu Cuyuni River.
The accused, who had no legal representation, were ordered held until November 27, by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
This matter was transferred from the when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to the Bartica Magistrates Court.
Thomas and France bore several bandages.
When questioned by Magistrate McLennan as to how he came about his injuries, Thomas claimed that he was chopped by Rodrigues.
Police Prosecutor, Neville Jeffers told the court that the police file is complete.
According to reports, Rodriguez, who has a nine year-old daughter, was killed around 02:15hrs, on the day in question. It was reported that the miner was chopped several times by two men, believed to be Thomas and France.
