Dear Editor,
Some of us are amazed at the audacity of the opposition (the previous administration) in laying blame on the new government for the ills that they (the opposition) caused over the 20 odd years of their rule. We should not be astonished by this display, given that over those years we were mostly silent in spite of all the atrocious things they did; some of which are now coming to light. Our silence gave them the impression that they were all right, that nothing was wrong with what they were doing. Consequently, they came to believe it. Our silence caused the opposition to develop a mental disorder, which is now evidenced in the belief they are displaying in their own lies.
They were destructive while in power, and they continue to be so, engaging in bullying tactics to cope with their loss of power. It will be good for the country’s development if less attention were given to them by the press. The press is only feeding their disorder which requires an intervention to help them overcome their destructive ways, which both holds them up to ridicule and can be further inimical to the development of the country.
The work of the new government, which when compared with what they did for the lengthy time the opposition was in power, is far superior to the fare we were offered as governance during their rule. The things that are being revealed every day is testimony to that.
An opposition is expected to oppose, but one expects it to be constructive, rather than the destructive behaviour that is being employed to foster the darkness that we recently came out from. They are aiming at causing as much distraction as possible so that the government ministers would be side tracked and not be able to function effectively, thereby making the opposition’s words a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Let us stay out of the darkness. Don’t dance to their tune. Don’t allow evil to prevail.
