Repeat offender jailed for 2 years on break and enter charge
Wearing an orange jersey that looked like it would glow in the dark, Hugh Cort was once again arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Ann McLennan, to answer to a charge of break and enter simple larceny.
The father of three minors nervously stood in the prison dock and swayed from side to side as the particulars of the charges were read to him. The charge stated that between June 15 and June 16, Cort of 116 South Ruimveldt Park, broke into Gordon Saul’s Boutique and carted off a quantity of clothing.
The court heard that the articles are valued $585,000.
The unrepresented man did not deny the allegation before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan and was jailed for two years.
Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones, said that the boutique which is located on Lime and Bent Streets, Georgetown, was open and the entire ordeal was captured on a Closed- Circuit television (CCTV) from which the police were able to identify Cort.
The Prosecutor told the court that the defendant was later arrested at a home in Hadfield Street which he had also broke and entered. He was consequently taken to the Alberttown Police Station.
While in the lock ups Saul identified Cort as the person who broke into the boutique. According to the Prosecutor the defendant was wearing a T-Shirt and jeans from the said boutique.
