Jul 18, 2015 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
This is in reference to a letter in the Stabroek News of Wednesday, July 15, 2015 captioned ‘Unauthorised stall in Mabaruma’.
In setting out the problem with the stall, the writer seemed bent on throwing a punch or two at the past Regional Chairman, Paul Pierre. He mentioned that Mr. Pierre passed this illegal structure every day and could not have missed it. Incidentally, many people traverse the same road.
One such person is none other than the new Regional Chairman, Brentnol Ashley. He would have seen that structure when he was the Schools Welfare Officer. Then again, Mr. Ashley would have been speeding past in the car which was rented and paid for by the Education Department while he was doing campaign work for the PPP.
For the writer’s information, that stall is not the only unauthorized building in the Government Compound. He may wish to check out the mini mall that has been set up in the old mechanic workshop between the Post Office and the Police Station. And, did Mr. Joseph see the piece of Government land which is being fenced for personal use by a known Contractor. It appears that the area was handed over or sold to him by a member of the previous administration, and it was not Paul Pierre.
I rather like the pre-prepared straight A(s) report card which the writer gives to the new Regional Chairman. It says that this new kid on the block will be a stronger political leader than Mr. Pierre. Yes, he has been coming across as strong indeed – mouthing off who he will be getting rid of and who he will ‘dig it up into’ at RDC meetings. Quite inappropriate talk coming from a young and strong political leader.
All unauthorized structures must be taken down and all underhand transactions must be investigated.
Lastly, a question – Who actually wrote the letter? Your guess is as good as mine.
Marian Alfred
