Police, Running Braves dominate AAG Relay Championships

– Perry leads GDF to 4x100m win
Police Progressive Youth Club and Running Braves Athletics Club ran away with the lion share of the spoils at the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Relay Championships at the National Track and Field Centre on Sunday.
Police capped their excellent showing on the day when it defeated Running Braves in the Men’s 4×400, which brought the curtains down. The Police team comprised Winston Dumment, Kevin Bailey, Carlwyn Collins and Kareem Purch, clocked 3:20.5s to win.
Running Braves’ team comprised Jason Yaw, who only a few weeks ago was injured for AAG’s National Youth and Junior Championships but was picked for Pan Am Juniors in Canada, Devon Barrington, Quacy Clementson and Cleveland Thomas.
Running Braves ran away with wins in the Men’s Distance Medley, 4x800m and female 4x100m with Alicia Fortune anchoring. They also won the 4x200m relay in 1:42.14s.
Clementson started the Men’s 4x400m race for Running Braves before passing the baton to Yaw, who barely managed to maintain a lead with Police’s Bayley on his heel. Police pursued Running Braves as Thomas took over the baton from Yaw.
On the third leg for Police was Carlwyn Collins. It was down to the anchors with Purch against Barrington. Barrington took the lead on the final straight, but Purch never gave up pursuit for the Police, overtaking Barrington for a narrow victory.
Police won the Women’s 4x100m in 4:06.01s, with Iesha Parris, Tiffany Carto, Jevina Sampson and Kezia Bess.
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) won the Men’s 4x100m, in 42.17 seconds with Rupert Perry at the helm. Davin Fraser, Leslain Baird and Akeem Stuart were the other members of the all-star cast for the soldiers.
The Defence Force also took home the Women’s Sprint Medley (1:45.77s), as well as the Men’s Sprint Medley (1:33.6s), and the Men’s 4x200m (1:27.37s).
