Twenty-five year old, Kwame Durant, who has no fixed place of residence, was given a second chance yesterday after he pleaded guilty to a drug possession charge.
As he sat in a corner of the docks Durant started to bark like dog and to shake his body back and forth, causing members of the public who sat in the chilled room to look at each other.
The charge stated that on July 5, last he had in his possession 2.2 grams of cannabis.
Police Corporal, Deniro Jones, informed the court that on the day in question, ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) acting on information went to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where the defendant was behaving in a disorderly manner.
The search was carried out and the item was found on him. Durant told the police that the cannabis was his.
During the brief court hearing, Magistrate Ann McLennan asked him what he had to say for himself, the young man started to bark like a dog and then told the Magistrate that he is a farmer and he uses the cannabis for his mental problem.
He was then fined $15,000 and ordered to do three weeks of community service.
