– Foster, Thomas, Barrington also doubles up
Guyana Defence Force sprint ace, Rupert Perry returned to the apex of sprinting in Guyana after a two year hiatus owed to a career-threatening knee injury, when he blasted his way to the Men’s 200m title at the National Track and Field Centre in the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Senior Championships.

GDF sprint ace, Rupert Perry leads Davin Fraser to the finish line yesterday afternoon in the men 200m to complete his national senior sprint double at the Synthetic Track and Field Facility.
Perry won in 21.1 seconds ahead of Davin Fraser (21.4) and Compton Caesar (21.7) respectively. Perry had won the 100m race on Saturday.
Natrena Hooper won the Women’s 200m in 24.4 seconds while Avon Samuels finished second in 25.1s and Aniquah Powley third in 25.5s.
Former CARIFTA bronze medallist, Andrea Foster won the 800m race in 2:19.30 from three time CARIFTA gold medallist, Cassey George, who dropped out around the 500m mark following an elbowing issue with Foster during the race. It was Foster’s second win of the weekend.
More drama unfolded on the day when officials were forced to separate Devon Barrington and Ornesto Thomas after the Men’s 800m. Winner, Barrington had attempted to assault the second placed finisher, Thomas following the race.
Cleveland Thomas continued his good form with a win in the Men’s 5000m, clocking 15:48 for the title ahead of Winston Messingher and Matthew McKenzie. Thomas also won the 1500m on day one, Saturday.
Meanwhile, in field events, Yoel Benjamin was the winner of the men’s triple jump with a leap of 13.95 m with Hooper winning the female version in 12.33m. Sophina Vanderstoop won the Women’s discus throw with 27.81m while Tandica Burgess won the Women’s High Jump with a 1.35m mark.
On day one of the Championships on Saturday, Perry sped to 10.21 seconds to win Men’s 100m with Kevin Abbensetts second in 10.30s and Fraser third in 10.41s. Powley won the female race in 12.0 seconds ahead of Onika Eastman and Tiranna Mitchell.
Foster and George signaled the ensuing showdown when the former relegated the latter to second in the Women’s 1500m race. Chontelle Hinds was third.
In the male version of the 1500m, Thomas won in 4:02s ahead of Ornesto Thomas and Kevin Bailey respectively.
Barrington won the 400m in 48.46s ahead of Arinze Chance (49.9s) and Quacy Simpson (50.46) respectively. Natricia Hooper (56.1s) won the women’s 400m ahead of Avon Samuels (56.75s) and Tiffany Carto (1:01s) in that order.
In day one’s field events, Baird threw 58.31m to win the Men’s Javelin while Morris Gibson leapt to 6.77m to claim the Men’s Long Jump.
