One of the twin babies born to a 13-year-old Wakapau resident early last month has died. The other infant remains with his mother at the Suddie Public Hospital. His health is being closely monitored by doctors. The babies were born prematurely.
The teenager’s aunt said that on Thursday she visited her niece at the Suddie Public Hospital. She said that her niece and the surviving twin were doing well. However the baby remains in an incubator. His health is been monitored.
She said the surviving twin looks stronger and if he continues to receive good care he will survive.
The teenage mother told her aunt that she was raped by a distant relative while she was visiting her older sister, at Timehri some time last year. The teenager became pregnant and delivered twin boys in early April.
The teenager was left in the aunt’s care momentarily after her parents were implicated in a murder several years ago. The teenager was a student of the Wakapau Secondary School.
The aunt insists she would like her niece to continue her academic education since the girl was doing well in school.
