MV Sabanto damages bollard at Parika Ferry Stelling
The Maritime Administration Department, (MARAD) has reported that the M.V. Sabanto has damaged a bollard at the Parika Ferry Stelling. A bollard is a short vertical post. Originally it meant a post used on a ship or a quay, principally for mooring.
According to a statement from the department, the M.V. Sabanto was manoeuvring to depart the Parika Ferry Stelling, pivoted against a mooring bollard resulting in its collapse. The incident is said to have occurred at around 09.00 hrs, yesterday.
MARAD has reported that four bollards were emplaced for operations.
“Divers will examine the damaged structure to help determine its re-instatement,” the release said.
Meanwhile, the department said that operations will continue – albeit with more time now necessary for mooring and departure at Parika. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
