Sherfene Rutherford turned in a good all-round performance to lead host Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to a 12-run victory over A Georgetown Select XI in a T20 fixture played on Sunday night last.

Captain of the victorious DCC team Chris Barnwell collects the trophy from club Secretary/Treasurer Ullanda Wiltshire in the presence of President Alfred Mentore (left), other officials and team members.
Rutherford hammered ten fours and four maximums in scoring 73 as DCC managed 182-8 in 20 overs after taking first strike. Trevon Griffith struck three fours and one six in 25 while Brian Sattaur made 12. Devon Lord took 2-23.
Georgetown Select XI replied with 170 all out in 19.1 overs. Raymond Reifer blasted 62 (2×4 6×6), Gavin Singh 29 (1×4 2×6), Ronaldo Mohamed 21 (1×4 2×6) and Andrew Lyght Jnr. 18. Christopher Barnwell picked up 3-26 while Rutherford claimed 3-27.
The game was organised to raise funds for Adrian Azeez Jnr., who was struck on the head by a ball while walking in the vicinity of the venue during a recent club match. Speaking with Kaieteur Sport after the game, President of the club, Alfred Mentore said that the gesture was necessary because Azeez Jnr. had to stay away from school and undertake private lessons at home due to the injury.
He added that as a club, they will continue to monitor his progress and hope his condition improves. Mentore stated that due to the incident, they have raised the fence three feet and will take it up an additional eight feet with mesh so the risk of similar incidents can be reduced. Among those who made the game possible were Sleep Inn Hotel, Bish Panday, Goodwood Racing Service, Roger Harper, Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, 4R, Alvin Rambarran, East Coast Cricket Board, Ramchand Auto Sale, Survival Super Market, Patrick Harding, Leon Johnson, Christopher Barnwell and Raymond Reifer.
Life Time Real Estate donated $1,000 for each six that was hit and sponsored the trophy which was given to the victorious team.
