Dear Editor,
I refer to Ruel Johnson’s pertinent observations about the PPP’s 2015 electioneering strategy being best described as “Operation Shock and Yawn” (KN, April 3, 2015). I have noticed that since then, the PPP has considerably upped the ante on the shock factor. Their list of candidates has drawn significant attention from all spheres of Guyanese society. I wish to remind any undecided voter, who is not benefitting from the spoils of the oligarchy, about the following absolutely shocking views expressed by our leaders and their children, with these two categories often intersecting:
Sam Hinds Jr. – Fortunately for us ordinary Guyanese the PPP were forced to bypass son of the outgoing PM from their “family-affair” list of candidates. I’m sure that it was not an automatic decision for the PPP to dismiss him as eligible, but someone in that Party’s leadership structure had to draw the line.
Charles Ramson Jr. – The son of former AG Charles Ramson and newly appointed PPP hot-shot candidate Charles Ramson Jr. recently employed a media release to air his view that “it would mean that the child of a senior officer in a business/company would never be able to work in that business/company. The reality is quite the opposite: most parents who own businesses have at least some degree of expectation of their children assisting in that business.” (iNews Guyana, April 12, 2015). With his analogy likening the leadership positions within the PPP and by extension the Government of Guyana, to that of a private family business, Ramson Jr. has clearly indicated how his party views the possession and distribution of power and influence. I wonder if we could have gotten Dr. Jagan or President Obama to endorse this view?
Robeson Benn –With his son (Robeson Benn Jr.) and the son of his colleague, GRDB Manager Jagnarine Singh (Vishnu Singh), seemingly keeping low profiles, Father Benn has picked up the slack. It has been reported that this gentleman said at the PPP’s Linden rally “Every election time they bring lil children and women to skin their bamsies at us when we talking…every time they come to skin their bamsie we must take out photos and put it on the internet” (iNews Guyana, April 13, 2015). What is the sickening obsession these men have with the posteriors of women and underage girls?
Rima Rohee-Paul – It has been reported that this other newly appointed PPP candidate publically posted the following comment on Facebook: “Nick it is fact! I live with it! yea typical black woman; all black people are the same. U twist it and turn it they are all the same same dutty mentality. That’s why they will always be the same in life” (KN, April 14, 2015). I gather that Rohee-Paul has since abruptly closed her Facebook account. Might this be the precursor to Jagdeo’s promise of kicking racists out of their party?
Editor, having juxtaposed these views and actions offered by these public figures with that of their children, I guess the PPP intends to revise the old adage to read: do as I say AND as I do. Parents are supposed to at least tell their children to do the right thing. In the PPP moral perversion seems to be encouraged and celebrated.
