The organising committee of May Day Cup 2015, a mega fundraiser for the PPP/C

Sponsor Mohamed M Latif popularly known as Azaad hands over sponsorship cheque to Dennis DeRoop, member of organising committee.
received an early boost after securing their first sponsor from Mr Mohamed M. Latif, popularly known as Azaad, businessman of Linepath, Upper Corentyne, Berbice.
At a simple ceremony held recently, Latif presented the cheque to Dennis DeRoop, a member of the organising committee. The sponsor said that he is pleased to be part of such a mega event and had no hesitation when he was approached for the assistance. He added that he is fully supportive of the work of the PPP/C in government. DeRoop thanked Latif for coming on board so willingly and assure him that he will get his money worth for the tournament which will be well run and all funds will be accounted for. He added that although the event is to raise funds for the ruling party, it will also provide entertainment for the entire family.
The day will start with four exciting teams from the county of Berbice namely West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower Corentyne and Upper Corentyne/RHTY&SC competing for bragging rights. The matches will be of 15 overs aside with two semifinals and a grand finale with the winner taking home a trophy and $100,000, the runner up $50,000 and the two losing semi finalist $25,000 each. The man of the match will also receive a trophy and $10,000 cash. The big game under floodlights will see arch rivals Berbice clashing with Demerara in a T20 game with the winner collecting a trophy and $200,000, man of the match a trophy and $20,000 and the loser $100,000.00.
Several top national and international players will be on show as the organizers are negotiating to get a few guest players from Trinidad and Tobago. Several gate prizes for the fans will be up for grabs and games for the young and the old will be there. The organizers are in process of securing sponsorship for the 6 teams participating in the cricket matches.
Following the cricket, Shakti’s Strings will provide live entertainment for the entire family in a big after party lime. Crown Vibes International will provide music.
This event will be held at the historic Albion Sports Complex on Saturday May 2, 2015 from 10am and is expected to be an annual fundraiser. Tickets will be $1,000 all day with kids under 12 free.
