Foreigners and the National Assembly
DEAR EDITOR,
I was very happy to see you publish the lists of candidates for the two major political parties (APNU+AFC and PPP/C) for the National Assembly.
Having perused these lists, it was quite interesting to see several individuals who I personally know are holding foreign passports.
I am fully aware of Article 155 1 (a) of our Constitution which states as follows:
No person shall be qualified for election as a member of the National Assembly who ––
is, by virtue of his own act, under any acknowledgment of allegiance, obedience or adherence to a foreign power or state;
Could GECOM shed some light on this critical issue?
