Dear Editor,
We are told that Minister Whittaker would be doing the honours addressing the Flag Raising Ceremony at Mabaruma. We are certain therefore that the Hon. gentleman would speak to the following issues:
1. The Kumaka Bridge, which he presided over, and which promotes the flooding at Barabina where hilariously the Government presented a bus for transportation. However, the bus does not have amphibious mechanisms;
2. The Kumaka Waterfront, which stares all in the face and continues to be a bugbear for the Administration;
3. The famous tarmac at Kumaka;
4. The feeble steamer service to the area;
5. The recent hurried gifting of buses to Amerindian Communities;
6. The recent hurried awarding of contracts to friends of the Administration, for example, the Volleyball Court at Broomes Playfield (only sand has been deposited at the site so far;
7. The state of the roads in spite of millions purportedly spent to do these works;
8. The Mabaruma Secondary School, which is a virtual oven, due to substandard works;
9. The gifting of heads of cattle to people at Khan’s Hill. Unfortunately the animals are products of inbreeding;
10. The electricity situation, which is a virtual milking cow for the contractor who has to repair the engine almost on a monthly basis;
11. The status of the hassar farm at Tobago Hill.
Since the two boats promised before 1992 elections are not completed as yet, it may be a great idea to contract the boat building to the people who were putting together a submersible craft in our own backyard.
The above should make for a very good presentation.
