Extensive preparations underway for Jumbo Jet Sprint Classic horserace meet

Extensive Renovation works are ongoing at the Rising Sun Turf Club as sponsors pour in for the much anticipated Jumbo Jet Sprint Classic, one day Pre-Mashramani horserace meet. The event, which is being held in collaboration with the Rising Sun Turf Club, is set for Sunday 22nd February at the Club’s Arima Park, West Coast, Berbice race track.
The entire sward and pavilion including the paddock, commentator’s booth and official viewing areas are being renovated with owner Fazal Habibulla promising patrons a new look Rising Sun Turf Club come race day. He is promising racing fans that they will get the opportunity to watch racing in comfort.
Nine races are carded for the day, with over $7M in cash and trophies on offer in the sprint classic event which will see all the races being run over 1100M.
At the moment, all the big stables including the Jumbo Jet, Shariff, Elcock, Bacchus, Sooklall, Habibulla, Dookie, Jagdeo, Crawford, Singh, Velloza and Jagroop stables are busy whipping their animals in shape and an exciting day of racing is anticipated.
A bevy of sponsors are already on board led by beverage giants Banks DIH Limited and includes, Jumbo Jet Business entity, Kanhai Electrical, Survival Supermarket, Imperial Connections, Sankar Auto works, Customs family, Sheriff Business Enterprise and racing stables, Buddy’s Night Club, Chris Jagdeo construction, Rommel Jagroop Construction, Balwant Singh and family, I and R Trucking Service and Fazal Habibulla among others.
The feature event for animals classified D1 and lower will see the winners taking home a sumptuous $1M and trophy.
The three-year-old event for Guyana and West Indian bred horses has $500,000 and trophy for the winner. The E2 event also has a winning purse of $500,000 and trophy. There is $400,000 and trophy up for grabs for the winner in the G1 and lower contest.
A first prize of $400,000 and trophy is also available for the winner of the race for four year old animals. The three year-old Guyana bred animals will gallop for a winner’s pocket of $250,000 and trophy. The winner of the H and lower race will also get $250,000 and trophy.
The event for I3 and lower animals will see the winner taking home $200,000 and trophy.
The final event is for animals classified J3 and lower for a winner’s money of $150,000 and trophy.
A number of top horses have also taken entry with most of the top sprinters in the game are set to register including Curfew Tower, Spit Fire, Red and Lovely, Princess She Not, Passion for Song, Plum Plum, Appealing Harvest, Strom Bird, Unsettled, Just call Me Boss, the event will also see the return of Country Armage among others.
Entries close today Saturday February 14th. The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority
