Kennard Persaud appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, to answer a charge of robbery under arms.
It is alleged that on Wednesday September 10, last, at about 19:00hrs, Persaud and an accomplice, walked up to Stacy Maxfield, while she was walking down Laing Avenue, Georgetown, placed a gun to her head, and removed a gold chain valued $215,000 from around her neck.
Maxfield recognised the perpetrator and reported the incident to the police who carried out a search for Persaud, but did not find him that day.
Coincidentally, Maxfield saw Persaud earlier this week, and the two engaged in a scuffle. She made contact with the police and they were able to detain him.
When asked by the Chief Magistrate as to how he wanted to plea, Persaud responded; “Not guilty with explanation your worship”.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant said that Persaud had been charged and convicted for robbery before, and requested that bail be denied.
The Chief Magistrate denied Persaud bail and also ordered that statements are to be filed and as such, Persaud should hold onto his explanation until the matter is called again on February, 20.
