A challenge for the deceiving Guyana Police Force

Dear Editor,
Please allow me to respond to some of the most barefaced lies and deception being peddled by the Guyana Police Force, mostly the “B” Division ranks and its Commander. It is a deep disgrace that the people who auth to protect us are lying barefacedly everyday to this nation and yet this no good government and unprofessional Minister of Home Affairs is praising the police for abusing and disgracing the people of this land, mostly by rewarding them for brutalizing the citizens of this country.
On Sunday 22nd December about 5:45am, I had received a call from Dr. Ramayya, who is an Executive and MP for the AFC in Berbice, indicating to me that a businessman of Maida Village on the Corentyne was robbed and the police took almost two hours to response to the calls made to the Whim Police Station by the residents and the family of the businessman. During our conversation, I was asked to visit the area and meet with the residents and the family members, and I did along with my fellow Executive Member Mark Ross. We arrived at Maida around 8:15am.
While there, the residents were in full rage and very upset as to the time the police took to respond to their calls and said to us that they (Police) took almost two hours to turn up and that when they (Police) did, all they (police) asked the family that was robbed was “how much money and gold y’all lost”. This was confirmed by the wife and the son of the businessman on camera.
The residents then went to stage a protest so as to gain the attention of the police higher authorities and ask us to support their call, and “YES” we did.
Why did we support this call for a protest in removing the corrupted ranks at the Whim Police Station? We support this call because we have received several calls from residents of Corentyne over the past weeks of police brutality especially coming from ranks at the said station. I support that call for protest because a few nights before, I received several calls whereby it was alleged that several ranks of the said police station went into a resident’s home, located in Bangladesh and put a gun to her neck and slapped the daughter during a search of the house.
I immediately contacted one rank name Browne who said he is in charge of the Whim Police Station and told him of the situation and his reply was that the police can do what they want and I do not know the law because the police have the right to search anyone’s home without a search warrant and they have the right to carry gun with them at all times and enter anybody’s yard.
This made me upset that this man, who heads a station, does not even know the laws of this land and he is an enforcement officer….shame on Guyana Police Force and Rohee.
This man who is in charge of the said station was at the protest with a jeep load of policemen and I could not believe what I heard coming from the mouth of this officer. He threatened the residents of Maida, Corentyne. He warned them not to leave their village and protest against the police or they will be investigated. I was shocked and I told him he cannot and will not stop this from happening because all the ranks at the said station are all rogue elements and need to be investigated and removed from there; and yes the protest went on successfully.
But what was surprising is that the businessman who is said to be a close ally of the PPP\C and the Police made a disgusting statement by refuting the claims that was made by the residents, his wife and son against the police. The Police then tried to capitalize on the businessman’s statement by saying ill things against us and tried to put themselves as gods over all with lots of praises.
If the commander of “B” Division and the Guyana Police Force is honest and truthful, then they should take this challenge on asap.
I am inviting you the Commissioner of Police and the Commander of “B” to visit some of villages on the Corentyne with me and hear what the people have to say about rotten ranks. Let’s take the media houses with us and when we finish, if I am wrong about the Police at Whim Police Station then I will immediately resign as an executive of the AFC. If I am correct then you Mr. Commissioner and Commander will have to resign or act for the people by removing all the ranks at the Whim Police Station.
Failing to take this challenge will prove to this nation that we cannot trust the Guyana Police Force to Protect or Serve us as citizen of this land.
