It has been almost three weeks since 14-year-old Miranda Jawnza, of Lot 25 Laing Avenue,
West Ruimveldt, went missing. Despite efforts of concerned relatives and members of the Guyana Police Force to locate her, there is still no sign of the teen.
It is not the first time she has wandered but her mother, Donnette Walcott, 39, reports that her fears are quickly mounting for her daughter’s safety following news that the teen was found lying in a house after being gang-raped.
Walcott has made an emotional plea for her to get in touch. The devastated woman, who visited Kaieteur News yesterday, recalled that her daughter, a student of Queenstown Community High School, was last seen on November 2, last.
According to the mother of seven, Jawnza, her youngest child, went away in October but was later found staying with one of her (Walcott) siblings at River View, Ruimveldt. The teen was returned home on October 29, last by a lady her mother does not know.
Walcott told Kaieteur News that the 14-year-old girl was living with a 28-year-old man named “Rawlie.”
She said it was not long after that the teen left again. On that occasion, they found her two days after.
Walcott reported that she “let the police lock her (Jawnza) up for two days” after which the 14-year-old was released into her care. They were scheduled to report to the police station the following Monday, but the teen disappeared before they could keep the appointment.
The distressed woman told Kaieteur News that on Sunday last, she received word that her daughter was found lying unconscious in a Kitty, Georgetown house. Walcott said that she had gone searching for her at the hospital, but still could not locate her.
The mother described the relationship she shared with her 14-year-old as a very open one. “I have no idea what problems she has. I don’t know why she did it.”
“She pack up her clothes. He send some people to call her out and she put her clothes in plastic bags and left when everyone was sleeping,” the devastated mother said. “She go away when we least expect it. She knows my number but she doesn’t call.”
A report has since been lodged at the Ruimveldt Police Station.
The woman is pleading with public spirited citizens to help her find her daughter. Walcott emphasised that her child has no reason to stay away from her home. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Miranda Jawnza is asked to contact the nearest police station or her mother on telephone 696-7966.
