Carpenter crushed by truck…Cops say driver was under influence of alcohol
The truck driver who struck down and killed Ramdolar Dhanraj last Saturday night at Pearl, East Bank Demerara was under the influence of alcohol, police confirmed yesterday.

Ramdolar, 60, was cycling on the East Bank Demerara public road at around 17.15 hrs when he was struck from behind by the lumber-laden truck.
“The driver of the motor vehicle was tested and found to be over the legal limit in relation to the consumption of alcohol. He is in police custody assisting with the investigations,” police said.
One man also recounted seeing the driver and other truckers consuming alcohol at a Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara shop just a few minutes before the accident occurred.
Deep tyre tracks on the eastern parapet indicated that the driver lost control about 100 meters from where Dhanraj was riding before ramming into him. The vehicle ended up in a ditch after running over the father of three, whose mangled remains remained at the scene for over an hour.
The dead man’s son, Mahendra Dhanraj, told Kaieteur News that his father, a carpenter, was heading for the adjoining community of Sara Johanna, East Bank Demerara, to meet some of his workers, when misfortune struck.
