– relative claims ex-cop knew nothing of missing women’s whereabouts
A detained acquaintance of slain ex-cop, Royston Waldron, has reportedly implicated himself, Waldron and others in at least four recent armed robberies.
The suspect, a 32-year-old Prashad Nagar resident, reportedly confessed yesterday, after a businesswoman identified him as one of the men who had robbed her at gunpoint last October.
She was reportedly attacked in Avenue of the Republic shortly after leaving a commercial bank.
The suspect, along with a 26-year-old Kitty resident, was apprehended while traveling in Waldron’s car in Thomas Street, Kitty. Waldron was shot dead during the encounter. While police said that the gang had opened fire on the ranks, eyewitnesses claimed that Waldron was shot after he had surrendered.
One eyewitness told Kaieteur News that Waldron was driving a yellow hire car east along Thomas Street around 12.00 hrs, when two cars blocked him from the front and rear.
The eyewitness said that men in plainclothes exited the vehicle and ordered the burly driver out of his car, while two passengers remained inside.
Kaieteur News was told that Waldron exited with hands upraised and one of the ranks shot him in the chest. Waldron collapsed on the roadway and the ranks shot him again, eyewitnesses and others said.
Police have said that the three men were wanted for questioning in connection with a number of armed robberies.
Waldron was also the prime suspect in the disappearance of Police Constable Patriena Nicholson and school teacher Nyozi Goodman.
Waldron is said to have been the last person to see the 34-year-old St. Stanislaus College teacher alive after dropping her off—and later picking her up–at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue on Sunday, July 6, 2014.
Police had repeatedly questioned their former colleague about the woman’s whereabouts, but he always proclaimed his innocence.
