DEAR EDITOR,
Many years ago, PNCR leader Hugh Desmond Hoyte felt he was being unfairly and persistently chastised by the Stabroek News. These frequent criticisms often took the form of editorials he perceived as unequivocally anti-Hoyte.
At breakfast one day Desmond Hoyte said he was really fed up having to constantly pen responses to de Caires’ constant criticisms. I then asked him what he planned to do. Before coolly placing some more bake and salt fish into his mouth, his memorable reply was:
“It is impossible to outpaper a newspaper so I will just have to take it in stride until it ends as all things must do. In the field of politics such unrelenting criticism is par for the course…. Politicians must be made of sterner stuff…” F. Hamley Case
