Eccles Nursery joins “Eat What We Grow” campaign

In an effort to further promote the “Eat What We Produce” campaign, Minister within

the Ministry of Agriculture Hon. Alli Baksh this morning commissioned two Grow Boxes at the Eccles Nursery, East Bank Demerara.
The simple ceremony also saw the Minister donating two blenders to the school’s kitchen to support its school feeding drive. The aim is to ensure every child benefits from not only a hot meal, but healthy locally produced fruit juice.
The aim of the campaign is to promote a permanent behavioural change in Guyana, which will see Guyanese eating what is produced locally and to expand the country’s unique Guyanese hospitality to include feeding guests what is grown and produced in Guyana.
Head Mistress, Eccles Nursery, Ms. Catherine Hinds, who spearheaded the initiative, lauded the move by the Ministry. She said it is the aim of the school to ensure every child benefits from a healthy meal.
Minister Baksh in delivering brief remarks spoke of the importance of growing more food to ensure that the country is more food secure with the potential to support other countries while at the same time sustaining itself.
