attorneys to be admitted to the local bar.
She was admitted on Thursday by Madam Justice Roxanne George-Wiltshire, before a courtroom of family members, friends and supporters. Her petition was presented by Attorney-at-Law Kim Kyte-John.
Dundas, a past pupil of F.E. Pollard Primary wrote the Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination (SSEE) in 2002 and was awarded a place at The Bishops’ High School. She later gained ten passes at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC).
She continued her Advanced Level (‘A’ Levels) at Bishops’ where she obtained passes in six Caribbean Advance Proficiency Examination (CAPE) subject areas and two passes from the British Examinations Board EDEXCEL examinations.
The young attorney was, in the Fifth Form, the recipient of the Anne Blue Award for Best All Round student. She had also copped the award for the Best Law Student in the Sixth Form level in 2009.
Dundas’ scholastic achievements were then boosted by a pass, with distinction, from the University of Guyana’s LLB programme in 2012. On October 5, the young attorney obtained her Legal Education Certificate (LEC) at the Hugh Wooding Law School.
The 24-year-old Subryanville, Georgetown resident then moved to complete a stint at the Law School’s Legal Aid Clinic, Criminal Law Specialist Clinic Attachment with Justitia Omnibus Law Chambers in Trinidad, before returning to these shores. She also completed in-service training at Fraser, Housty and Yearwood Law Office in Georgetown.
Now that she has been accepted, the young lawyer has said that though she is very proud of her achievement, she recognizes that it is not only her own. Dundas believes that nothing is more fundamental to any achievement or success, than giving thanks to those who helped to make it possible.
Speaking to Kaieteur News, Dundas expressed thanks to Ms. Kyte-John, who had taught her during her time at the University of Guyana, for presenting her petition.
The 24-year-old expressed heartfelt gratitude to her parents, Lawrence Dundas and Salomie Ramotar, for their years of dedication and sacrifice. She noted that it was not an easy task, but she had made it through the support of her family, friends, her church and God.
God, she said, has always acted in times of need.
Also present at the ceremony was CEO and Managing Director of Caribbean Container Incorporated, Patricia Bacchus. Dundas is presently employed as legal officer/company secretary with the entity.
The young lawyer also expressed thanks to Bacchus who lectured her at the University of Guyana. According to her, her former lecturer continues to give her guidance and support on the job.
The ambitious young woman etched the words of Bishops’ then Head Teacher Mrs. Elizabeth Isaacs –Walcott in her mind. She said she can recall, from days at Bishops’, Mrs. Isaacs-Walcott was in the habit of saying “reward for hard work is more hard work.” These are the words she has promised to live by.
Dundas added that she is aware that the work has only now begun, but assured that she would not give in to the “bad practices” but will work to uphold the integrity and high standards of the noble profession.
