East Canje man charged with violating 12 year old
Leonard Bristol, 22 of Lot 37 Bristol Street, Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice who works as a private /hire car driver, has been charged with sexual assault of a minor.
The man, a former soldier is accused of fondling the 12 year old while she was being transported in his vehicle.
The man appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus on Wednesday at the Reliance Magistrate’s court.
Information revealed that the accused operates a private car for hire on the road. On the day in question, the virtual complainant boarded the vehicle with the intention of being taken to her school.
However, the defendant allegedly dropped off the other passengers before driving away with the minor to a desolate area, where he allegedly committed the act. The girl was later that morning questioned by a teacher and made the allegation against Bristol. The mother was also informed and she reported the matter to the police.
Bristol was subsequently arrested and charged. In court he was placed on $100,000 and asked to lodge his passport.
The matter is set to continue on 28th November in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
