Young mother admitted to the Guyana Bar Association
Certified mediator and human rights advocate Ronetta Sargent joined the Guyana Bar Association after her petition was presented before Justice Roxanne George at the Georgetown Supreme Court on Wednesday.

The 24 year- old mother of one who hails from New Amsterdam, Berbice recalled that she worked and studied assiduously to accomplish her lifelong goal of becoming an Attorney- at- Law.
A former student of Vreed-En-Hoop Primary School and President’s College, Sargent accomplished 100% passes in her academic studies.
Her petition was presented by Attorney- at- Law Bernard De Santos, S.C at whose chambers the young Attorney completed her in -service training.
De Santos described Sargent as being a keen and willing worker with good communication skills.
He noted that Sargent is an excellent mediator, who is certified in the field of alternative dispute resolution and human/child’s rights advocacy for which she was accredited during her years of studies at the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago.
Justice George commended the young attorney on her accomplishment and urged that she show respect for the court and her chosen profession. “You should give your best at all times,” the judge said.
The Judge pointed out to the attorney that her skill in alternative dispute resolution, mediation and human/child rights advocacy might be most needed in her practice.
In turn, the attorney thanked her many friends’ relatives and other supporters, most of whom were present in the courtroom. She expressed that while studying at the University of Guyana, (UG) she had to make an intelligent and conscious decision to continue her studies, after becoming pregnant
The young barrister recalled that she took a break from her studies at the University.
“When I returned to school I worked and studied. I even took my daughter to Trinidad with me where I continued to work and study…I thank my Heavenly Father for his mercies and my mother who has been my constant pillar of strength…” Sargent said
The young lady said that during the years of sacrifice and hard work, she applied the principles of a popular quote by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”
