Mom who left kids alone jailed for two weeks

Angela Bodhaley, the single-parent Perseverance mother who police in early August had charged with neglect, was yesterday sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment by Magistrate Sunil Scarce when she finally appeared at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.
Bodhaley had been absent twice before yesterday’s sentencing. She was initially charged with neglect. She pleaded guilty to the charge.
Police said Bodhaley in early August left her five sons without adult supervision for a period of three weeks, at her Perseverance home. The boys, with ages ranging between fourteen to six years old, were reportedly forced to take care of themselves, a practice they had grown accustomed to, since their mother would on occasions leave them unattended.
Bodhaley, although she would receive monetary assistance from her relatives overseas, and from her neighbours, would leave her young sons unattended and begging. She had told Magistrate Scarce that she had an injured leg and was unable to work to take care of her boys. Because of Bodhaley’s negligent behaviour, members of the Child Care and Protection Agency removed the boys from their Perseverance home and they are currently in the organisation’s care.
