Attendees of the Pegasus Hotel Poolside, in Kingston, were able to witness the glamorous sashing ceremony of the nine gorgeous contestants for the Miss Guyana Universe competition.
The contestants were presented with their sashes by their individual sponsors who included Waterchris Hotel, Strategic Asset Solutions, Palm Court, Tempe Tea, DEP Trading Inc., Kawloon Inc, Muzik Nite Clubs and Schwarz Law LLC.
The delegates for the competition include reigning Miss Jamzone International Sonyini Fraser, former Miss Guyana Universe contestant Nikita Barker, US-based Guyanese Jyoti Hardat, Alicia Kirton, Sonia Cummings, Cardella Hamilton, Rochelle Cheddie, Lakota McPhoy and Shonette Cain.
Even though the ceremony started over an hour and half later than the scheduled time, spectators were still eager to get a glimpse of the prospective contestants that will be representing Guyana on the international stage.
When the curtain was drawn tension was high and some of the contestants exhibited their anxiety as the pressure of the competition weighed heavy on their conduct at the ceremony. Some of delegates were clearly shaking as they approached the stage. Some observers even remarked that more training needs to be done on the part of organizers so that the girls can be ready for coronation night.
Slated next for the delegates is the intelligence portion of the competition which will be aired live on national television networks: National Communication Network (NCN), Television Guyana (TVG), and Hits & Jams Television (HJTV).
As a final effort for the contestants to refine their skills, the Pegasus Poolside will once again be hosting the ladies for the grand rehearsal on October 18.
The coronation ceremony for Miss Guyana Universe will be on Sunday, October 19 at the Pegasus Hotel and will begin at 20:00hrs. The Pageant is an annual event that will have delegates compete in swimwear, evening wear and intelligence segments.
The winner will not only receive US$10,000 but will also have the chance to represent Guyana at the 63rd Miss Universe pageant on January 25, 2015 in Doral, Florida.
