The children were chosen on their performance at this year’s Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) and the National Grade Six assessments. The organization also awarded 15 staff members Employee of the Year, for their “outstanding” dedication to the Corporation during the past year.
Part of the ceremony included a presentation to the St. Rose’s High School.
This year’s World Post Day was held under the theme “Posts claims their place in the changing communication landscape”. The international event originated in 1969, when the Universal Postal Union declared the official observance at its Congress in Tokyo, Japan and is currently celebrated in 162 countries worldwide.
In addition to this event, the GPOC will be presenting prizes to three top writers who participated in their 2014 writing competition, on October 13. The presentation will take place at the Anna Regina Post Office, in Essequibo.
The organization also received corporate support from the Management of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, the Ministry of Education and the North American Life Insurance Company.
