The two men who were caught and handed over to the police by Devonshire Castle residents early Sunday morning, are still to be identified by the police. The arrests followed a spate of burglaries and rape incidents that have been plaguing the Community.
The men were reportedly caught in two different locations in Devonshire Castle. It is still unclear why they were in the Village, since one is said to be from Dartmouth, a village some distance from Devonshire Castle. The origin of the other is still unknown.
Commenting on the men’s arrests, a senior police officer noted that residents of Devonshire Castle, it appears, are targeting strange persons who are seen in the Community. The officer said that despite several rapes; suspects were brought in for questioning in the case of the alleged rape victim; the woman has failed to identify any of those persons.
The 32-year-old Devonshire-Castle woman, a mother of four, was allegedly raped recently after a man broke into her house in the wee hours of the morning.
The woman said that she was taken out of her bed and dragged over a barbed wire fence and raped. A report was lodged with ranks at the police station but police have indicated that the woman failed to mention that she was raped. A medical report also failed to determine whether there was a rape. A report was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice into the matter.
The police continue to pursue investigations into the matter.
