Prominent West Dem rice miller passes away
The rice industry has been thrown into mourning with the sudden death of popular West Demerara miller,

Bhagwandin Madho.
Madho, a rice farmer of Crane Village, was instrumental in donating part of the land that was used to build the $600M access road from Schoonard to La Parfaite Harmonie, a large housing scheme just off the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
According to the Ministry of Housing and Water, Madho will be remembered for his patriotism and philanthropy when he donated 14 acres of land to the Government of Guyana, to facilitate the alternative access to La Parfaite Harmonie, to benefit an estimated 40,000 persons.
In early September, Madho was present at the ceremony to commission the road.
He is said to have died suddenly after a short illness.
“Mr. Madho was a true patriot who, in donating the land for the road, demonstrated the ability to move beyond self, in his desire to assist in promoting the welfare of others. Guyana will be the poorer with the passing of this true son of the soil.”
Madho was one of the largest rice farmers in the West Demerara area, and was vocal on a number of issues affecting the industry.
The 66-year-old miller was the father of three and also leaves to mourn his wife, Gomatie.
